Nur Matta's 'Cuerpo de obra' Performance at Unarte, Puebla

On May 21, 2026, Mexican artist Nur Matta (b. 1994) presented 'Cuerpo de obra' at Galería La Miscelánea, Unarte, in Puebla, Mexico. The performance involved Matta being transported wrapped in bubble wrap on a hand truck from a van into the gallery, where she was placed standing on a low pedestal with a walker. She remained motionless and silent for nearly an hour, avoiding eye contact with the audience. The action was a restaging of her 2021 piece 'Cuerpo, objeto de exhibición,' originally performed during the pandemic. Matta's work centers on her disabled body, exploring fragility, support, and the politics of corporeality. She studied at Unarte, completed SOMA's educational program and a master's at UNAM, and now teaches at Unarte and Ibero campus Puebla. The performance included a text by philosopher Marie Bardet installed on the wall. After the action, the pedestal and walker remained as relics, echoing Chris Burden's 'You'll Never See My Face in Kansas City' (1971).
