Nuno Viegas: The Street Artist Behind the Hooded Faces

Portuguese street artist Nuno Viegas, known by his pseudonym METIS, creates hooded figures on walls worldwide. Born in 1985 in Faro and raised in Quarteira, he began his artistic journey in 1999 and later founded the collective Policromia Crew, which promotes creativity and collaboration among street artists. His work offers a cleaner, more peaceful interpretation of urban culture, refined yet rebellious, as stated in his Instagram bio: 'THIS IS NOT GRAFFITI.' After studying Visual Arts at the University of Algarve, Viegas moved to Rotterdam in 2014, where he developed a painting technique rooted in his graffiti origins but with a more refined aesthetic. This evolution was influenced by an internship with renowned artist Tymon de Laat. His breakthrough came in 2016 through a collaboration with Street Art Today in Amsterdam. Since then, he has worked with Yasha Young Projects, Graffiti Prints, Thinkspace Gallery, and Underdogs Gallery, expanding his work onto walls and galleries globally.
