Novo Collective's uncommissioned Brings Six Public Artworks to Curaçao

exhibition · 2026-10-21

Six new public artworks have been installed across Curaçao for the second edition of uncommissioned, the experimental public art programme of Novo Collective. The organisation was founded two years ago by Chuman Zhang, formerly artist liaison at Perrotin Los Angeles and Shanghai, and Jerry Guo, a Burning Man camp organiser and sailor. Half of the eight participating artists are from Curaçao. Giovanni Abath's stone sculpture saying everything without explaining anything… sits on the shore of Playa Zakitó, near one of 500 construction projects that appeared on the island in the past year. Ailsa Anastatia's terms and conditions combines cacti salvaged from construction sites with metal prosthetics and a tall portal framing the bay. In Kueba di Indjan cave, Luger's Land Song suspends dozens of unfired clay whistles on banana-fibre ropes woven by artist Ginger Dunill, his wife and manager; the whistles will gradually return to the earth through rainfall. Avantia Damberg, founder of SKOR Kòrsou, installed her first stained-glass work, Through Colourful Shades: Inside Out, in the lighthouse on Klein Curaçao, and her second, The Land's Hexagonised Treasures, in the cave. Pedro Oliveira and Xuedi Chen built a plinth for Nash Caldera's performance at the opening reception. Support came from The Mondriaan Fund and other Dutch and Caribbean cultural agencies. The first edition, in 2023, involved fifty artists in forty-two cities.
