The trial was slated to commence on Thursday in Dartmouth's provincial court, but following the Crown's failure to present evidence, Smith's legal team sought dismissal. Prosecutor Bryson McDonald informed the media that the prosecution's standard was not met, although he did not provide further details, noting ongoing communication with the complainant. The complainant, protected by a publication ban, stated to CBC that she chose not to testify to safeguard her mental health. Smith, who pleaded not guilty in February to a charge stemming from an alleged 2017 incident, will return to his duties with Trailer Park Boys Incorporated now that the charge has been dropped.
