Noue Studio Swaps Kitchen and Bedroom to Transform 1980s Villa

Noue Studio renovated a 1983 single-storey villa by swapping the positions of the kitchen and bedroom, a move that reorganized light, privacy, and circulation without altering the building's footprint. The relocated kitchen opens onto the living room, becoming a shared space that encourages daily interaction. Enlarged windows strengthen the connection between interior and garden, while the bathroom is designed as a gradient of privacy. Existing wooden ceilings were preserved and repainted, complemented by new ash and oak joinery, lime plaster walls, and a rammed earth fireplace that serves as a central, assertive element. The project, completed in 2025, follows the same logic as Noue Studio's earlier modernist apartment renovation in Fribourg, letting the existing structure guide its transformation.
