Not a Studio's Sky-Blue Beam Transforms Dark 1919 Barcelona Flat

Rocco Bibbiani from Not a Studio has revamped a 36-square-metre apartment in Barcelona's Sarrià district, making it feel roomier without expanding its actual size. Built in 1919, this space had been in one family for years and was previously divided into four rooms, a kitchen, a dining area, and a terrace bathroom. By knocking down all the interior walls, Bibbiani highlighted the nearly five-metre-high ceilings, which became a focal point of the design. He painted the beams and pillars in shades of blue, green, and yellow, contrasting them with light walls and pale laminate flooring. The open staircase, made of phenolic pine plywood, includes storage under each step and has a sleek handrail. The kitchen features an IKEA METOD setup with custom elements, and the wet areas are finished with white mosaic tiles. Bibbiani credits the inspiration from contemporary Spanish studios like BURR and AMOO. This project, named Monterols, was finalized in 2026 on Monterols Street.
