Not A Hotel Unveils Giant Poké Ball Guest Room in Hokkaido, Japan

architecture-design · 2026-09-03

Not A Hotel, a Japanese hospitality company, has revealed plans for a new guest room resembling a massive Poké Ball, to be located in Tomakomai City, Hokkaido, Japan. This spherical room, measuring three metres in diameter, will be crafted from two molded acrylic halves and a curved acrylic window, giving it the look of an opening Poké Ball. Access will be through a sliding, curved door, and inside, a custom circular mattress will occupy most of the space. The bathroom will feature tiles inspired by Snorlax, a Pokémon famous for its slumbering nature, and guests can choose lighting themes based on various Pokémon characters. This initiative, in partnership with the sleep-tracking app Pokémon Sleep, celebrates the app's third anniversary and the 30th anniversary of Pokémon. Instead of public bookings, stays will be awarded through a forthcoming competition. Not A Hotel emphasized that this design "transcends the boundaries of architecture and product design," aiming to enhance joy in people's lives amid growing convenience. Previous projects include a coastal retreat by Sou Fujimoto and three rammed-earth villas by BIG. Renders are provided by Not A Hotel and Pokémon.
