Norwich University of the Arts showcases architecture projects focused on ecology and remediation

Norwich University of the Arts recently displayed a variety of architectural projects from its BA (Hons) Architecture and MArch courses in a Dezeen School Show. These student works address significant issues like environmental concerns, social change, and the climate crisis through creative spatial designs. Some standout projects include Sam Joy's renewable energy center on Orchid Island in Taiwan, which creatively uses local knowledge to convert seaweed and fish waste into biogas; Jakob Rode-Christoffersen's facility for rehabilitating seals underground; and Jade Luxwolda's wildlife rehabilitation center built from repurposed sea defense wood. Other highlights cover Tom Whitmore's phytoremediation work at Orford Ness in Suffolk, an archive for fragile landscapes by Louie Paterson Dean, and a forensic investigation of war by Anastasiia Milenko. The school emphasizes collaboration with local communities, drawing inspiration from East Anglia's coastal scenery. The faculty includes Claudia Morgado, William Burgess, William Hailiang Chen, and several others.
