Norton Maza to Present Inter-Reality at Chile's Venice Biennale Pavilion

Norton Maza will represent Chile at the 61st Venice Biennale with an immersive installation titled Inter-Reality, on view from 9 May to 22 November 2026 in the Arsenale. The multisensory work explores the fragmentation of contemporary reality through visual, sonic, and spatial layers, merging the real and fictitious. Maza cites influences from classical and Baroque painting, personal experiences of scarcity and abundance, and the current climate of overinformation and misinformation. He notes an affinity with the Biennale theme In Minor Keys, emphasizing ambiguous zones and viewer-constructed narratives. The pavilion is co-curated by Argentine Marisa Caichiolo and Cuban Dermis León, grounding the project in a Latin American context while addressing global issues like misinformation, ecological crisis, and migration. Maza admires Violeta Parra as a key Chilean artist.
