Nonument Group Represents Slovenia at 61st Venice Biennale with 'Soundtrack for an Invisible House'

Representing Slovenia at the 61st Venice Biennale, which will take place from 9 May to 22 November 2026, is the Nonument Group, a collective of four members. Their installation, titled 'Soundtrack for an Invisible House,' centers on a meadow in the Slovene Alps, where a small wooden mosque was erected in 1917 for Bosnian soldiers who fought for the Habsburg Empire on the Soča/Isonzo Front. This mosque, the only one ever built on present-day Slovenian soil until 2020, has left no physical traces. The project delves into concealed ruins as reflections of societal issues regarding identity, history, and politics. The pavilion is situated in the Arsenale, and the group—comprising Miloš Kosec, Nika Grabar, Neja Tomšič, and Martin Bricelj Baraga—highlights Slovenia's legacy of resistance to fascism and its rich tradition of poets, artists, and critical thinkers. The Biennale serves as an important dialogue among nearly 100 nations, particularly in light of current geopolitical tensions, and aligns with the theme 'In Minor Keys' by bringing attention to neglected stories.
