Nicola Samorì's Monument to Motorcyclist Luca Salvadori Unveiled in Milan

A new public sculpture by Italian artist Nicola Samorì will be inaugurated in Milan on September 14, 2026, at 6 PM. The five-meter-tall aluminum work, titled 'Le Pieghe' (The Folds), is a memorial to Luca Salvadori, a 32-year-old motorcycle racer and content creator who died on September 14, 2024, during a race at the Frohburg street circuit in Saxony. Commissioned by Luca's father, Maurizio Salvadori, the sculpture is a donation to the City of Milan. It will be installed in the green area near the twin curves of Viale Pietro e Maria Curie, close to the Triennale, where Luca practiced his first motorcycle bends as a child. The sculpture incorporates fragments of Luca's motorcycle, melted and fused into the aluminum body. Samorì describes the work as embodying 'elevation and imbalance, something perpetually unstable.' The genesis of the piece includes a real tree trunk recovered from the sea after being uprooted by the 2023 flood in Romagna. The monument's form is a large 'S,' symbolizing the infinite curve of the racetrack. The artist draws a parallel between Luca's story and the legend of Saint Benedict's disciple Placidus, who was saved from drowning by Mauro, who walked on water. Samorì sees the sculpture as a thaumaturgic act, lifting Luca's remains into a vertical flow of art, rescuing him from the passage of time. The work is intended to be a permanent memorial in the city, ensuring Luca's memory lives on.
