Nichols N1A: Steve Nichols' Road-Legal Can-Am Tribute with 705bhp

other · 2026-10-09

At 79, Steve Nichols, the mind behind the McLaren MP4/4, has unveiled the Nichols N1A, a sports car that is road-legal and draws inspiration from the 1963 McLaren M1A. This vehicle, produced by Nichols Cars—co-founded by 71-year-old CEO John Minett—boasts a 7.0-litre Chevrolet V8 engine that generates 705bhp and has a weight of 900kg, resulting in an impressive 783bhp per tonne and a top speed of 240mph. With a starting price of £500,000, only 150 units will be manufactured. Currently, three prototypes are available: a destroyed dark blue, a light blue tested by Wallpaper*, and a red customer version. The initial 15 units will be 'Icon 88' editions, and production is handled by RML Group, featuring a ten-member team primarily from F1, including Mark Hannawin.
