Nice Projects designs 1920s-inspired cinema for Kensington members' club

Design studio Nice Projects has completed The Screening Room, a private cinema inside The Roof Gardens members' club in Kensington, London. The 68-square-metre space seats 20 and features a cocktail bar with an onyx counter. Creative director Sacha Leong explained that the design draws on the surrounding art deco architecture to evoke 1920s glamour. Seating varies from chaise longues at the front to deep armchairs and daybeds at the back. The interior uses a tonal palette of burnt orange fabric wall covering, red velvet upholstery, and dark terracotta wool carpet, contrasted with a dark peach lobby and silver screen curtain. Materials include brushed stainless steel, yellow onyx, leather-wrapped handrails, and cast glass details. Alabaster wall lights by Pierre Chareau add a warm glow. Nice Projects, which also recently designed Selfridges' members' club 40 Duke Street, aimed to create a relaxed, intimate cinema experience. The cinema shows cult classics and arthouse films.
