New Museum Triennial 2027: 'The Outside Expands' Curated by Vivian Crockett and Isabella Rjeille

exhibition · 2026-10-06

The New Museum has announced its sixth Triennial, set to take place from 4 February to 16 May. This event will be the first since the museum's reopening in March, which followed a two-year expansion project. Curated by Vivian Crockett from the New Museum and Isabella Rjeille from Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP), the 2026 exhibition is titled The Outside Expands. This title is inspired by a 1979 action by the Brazilian group 3NÓS3, which involved marking Xs at various São Paulo gallery entrances with the phrase 'What is inside remains, what is outside expands,' encouraging cultural workers to transcend institutional limits. Featured artists will explore themes of territory and identity, including Jean Barth, Luz Broto, and many others.
