Nepo Babies Dominate Hollywood as New Data Reveals Sharp Rise in Industry Family Ties
The emergence of "nepo babies" in Hollywood is underscored by recent film releases. Notable examples include Kaia Gerber and Homer Gere in The Shards, while Taylor Dearden was featured in The Pitt and Keen Ruffalo made his debut in Sterling Point. Ella Beatty takes the lead in Netflix's Monster. According to The Economist, ten films currently in U.S. theaters showcase these nepo babies. This phenomenon isn't unprecedented, with past figures like Angelina Jolie and Isabella Rossellini. Interest peaked in 2022, spurred by a New York Magazine article. Giggster reported that 28% of actors under 35 have parents in the industry, an increase from 6.6% in 2000 to 16.3% by 2025. Stephen Follows observed similar patterns among leading filmmakers. Additionally, Magnus Ferrell and Malcolm Todd received nominations for Best New Artist at the MTV VMAs.
