NEA Opens Nominations for 2027 National Heritage Fellowships, Honoring Traditional Arts

Recent visual arts fellows include ceramicist Verónica Castillo from San Antonio (2013), quilter Laverne Brackens from Fairfield, Texas (2011), and 2025 recipients like Mexican folklórico artist Carmen Baron in Tucson, Arizona, and Omaha traditional Lakota artist Steve Tamayo. Other notable recent fellows are Chicano muralist Fabian Debora (2024), Navajo/Diné quilter Susan Hudson (2024), and Hispano woodcarver Luis Tapia from Santa Fe, New Mexico (2023). The program honors those who have made substantial impacts on the nation's cultural heritage.
