National Portrait Gallery celebrates 100 years of Marilyn Monroe

The National Portrait Gallery in London is currently hosting an exhibition titled 'Marilyn Monroe: A Portrait', which delves into the star's life, career, and enduring influence. It showcases works by renowned photographers including André de Dienes, Eve Arnold, Milton H. Greene, Cecil Beaton, and Allan Grant, alongside pieces by artists Pauline Boty and Andy Warhol. Born Norma Jeane on June 1, 1926, Monroe was discovered by photographer David Conover in a munitions factory in 1946, leading to her first modeling contract with 20th Century Fox. The exhibition features notable images such as Monroe reading Ulysses by James Joyce in 1955 and a 1956 pool portrait by Milton H. Greene. Monroe, who married playwright Arthur Miller and converted to Judaism, collaborated with Sir Laurence Olivier on 'The Prince and the Showgirl' (1957). After her passing in 1962, artists like Warhol produced famous works, including 'Green Marilyn' (1962). The exhibition is open until September 6.
