National Geographic Museum of Exploration Opens in Washington, D.C.

The National Geographic Museum of Exploration opens June 26 in Washington, D.C., expanding from 16,800 to 100,000 square feet. The museum features life-size animal sculptures, a giant 3-D yellow magazine cover border, a partial Titanic replica, a moon rock from Apollo 12, a 270-degree theater, and a permanent photography gallery. A highlight is the "Photo Ark: Animals of Earth" exhibition by Joel Sartore, Rolex National Geographic Explorer of the Year 2018, showcasing portraits of over 17,000 animal species. The museum also includes an international eatery, gift shop, and the National Geographic Learning Launchpad. Tickets are $29.99 for adults, $25.99 for seniors, $22.99 for youth, and free for children under 4. CEO Jill Tiefenthaler says the museum immerses visitors in the work of scientists, storytellers, educators, and conservationists.
