Nari Ward's 'Until That Day' Opens at Deste Foundation's Hydra Slaughterhouse

On June 23, 2026, Nari Ward presented 'Until That Day,' a collection of 10 new pieces at the Deste Foundation's Slaughterhouse project space in Hydra, Greece. This exhibition delves into themes of migration and memory, focusing specifically on the Afro-Greek community, and will be open until October 31. A highlight of the show is 'Fire Hose Man,' a striking sculpture made from old luggage wrapped in fire hose, representing both crisis and relief. Additional works feature scorched poplar tables for dominoes and emergency blanket flags advocating for land rights. The Jamaican-born, New York-based artist frequently addresses the immigrant experience. Attendees included curators Cecilia Alemani, Ann Temkin, and Larry Ossei-Mensah, as well as artists Raúl de Nieves and Maurizio Cattelan. On the roof, singer Aggelos Aggelou performed Haile Selassie I's 1963 U.N. address beneath Jeff Koons's sun sculpture, while collector Dakis Ioannou hosted the annual Deste Foundation celebration on Hydra.
