Nanni Cagnone, Multidisciplinary Italian Artist and Writer, Dies at 86

Nanni Cagnone passed away on April 3, 2026, just seven days before his eighty-seventh birthday. His diverse career spanned roles as a jazz drummer, art critic, translator, novelist, essayist, magazine editor for industrial design, creative director at advertising agencies, publisher, and aesthetics professor. Cagnone's body of work includes poetry collections, novels, essays, memoirs, aphorisms, and retranslations of both contemporary and ancient classics. In his 2015 book Discorde, published by La Finestra, he wrote about the necessity of choice and the loss of childhood illusions. His artistic output remains deliberately unclassifiable, resisting categorization and challenging contemporary trends with what he described as a disdainful rather than ruthless judgment of modern times. The incomplete and composite nature of his work intentionally defies both his own era and any historical period.
