Mylène Farmer's New Music Video Filmed in BnF Richelieu's Salle Ovale
Mylène Farmer has released the music video for her new single "Des lols et des quoi," filmed inside the Salle Ovale of the Bibliothèque nationale de France's Richelieu site and its museum. The clip was directed by Thierry and Didier Poiraud and depicts a dystopian world governed by censorship, in which words have been stripped of meaning and libraries have become prisons. In the video, a masked commando led by Farmer storms the monument, enters the Salle Ovale where censors are methodically redacting texts, and takes them hostage. Farmer escapes the chaos, slips into the museum rooms, steals a mysterious book from a display case, and then surrenders. The song, composed by DJ Lewis, denounces the impoverishment of the French language, with lyrics asking where the words have gone and lamenting that "Ronsard est las." The cinematographic images pay tribute to the majesty of the building, which regained its splendor after a long restoration campaign led by architects Bruno Gaudin and Virginie Bregal, completed in 2022. The video also highlights that, unlike the neighboring Salle Labrouste reserved for students and art history researchers, the Salle Ovale is open to everyone, who can sit under its grand glass roof to read or work. The single is taken from the album Égrégore, scheduled for release on October 30, 2026, on the Stuffed Monkey label.
