MVRDV and OODA Unveil Landscape-Led Masterplan for Lisbon's Marvila Riverfront

MVRDV and OODA have presented a masterplan for a 28-hectare area located between Marvila and Beato along Lisbon's riverfront, receiving approval from the Lisbon City Council. Collaborating with LOLA Landscape Architects and Thornton Tomasetti, the proposal encompasses 1,400 residences, commercial areas, and public amenities. Previously used for agriculture, the site is now divided from the Tagus River by railway tracks. The design features four distinct zones (Açúcar, POLU, Beato, Madre Deus) interconnected by public spaces and infrastructure. Important heritage sites, such as the Convento do Beato and an ancient rubber tree, will be safeguarded. A central park is planned to lessen the effects of the upcoming Third Tagus Crossing bridge. Future actions include conducting an Environmental Impact Assessment and initiating urbanization efforts.
