Mutuo's Wonderland in Laurel Canyon Lists One of Its Three Homes for $1.495m

architecture-design · 2026-10-20

One of the three interconnected residences that make up Wonderland, a Los Angeles project by architectural firm Mutuo, has been listed for $1,495,000. Completed in 2019, the scheme converted a single-family house on the Laurel Canyon hillside into three linked homes designed to balance privacy with shared outdoor space. The for-sale unit is a two-bedroom residence across three levels. Mutuo drew on Laurel Canyon's historic row houses, reworking them in a contemporary idiom: Victorian scalloped shingles meet board-formed concrete. Zoning constraints pushed the design to maximize exterior space, yielding a front-facing terrace and a rooftop observation deck with views of the San Gabriel Mountains. Inside, the main entry level holds the bedroom suite with a walk-through closet and adjoining bathroom, a guest bedroom with its own bathroom, and a laundry area. An open-tread staircase, lit by a skylight, rises past a living room ceiling carved by the stair's undercarriage to the dining area, outdoor terrace, and open kitchen. The project received the 2021 AIA California Residential Merit Award. Enquiries are directed to moderncaliforniahouse.com.
