Museum Vonk Opens in Eindhoven with Hempcrete and Reclaimed Timber
Museum Vonk, a history museum shaped like a wedge, has been finalized by Studio Marco Vermeulen in Eindhoven. Constructed from reclaimed cross-laminated timber (CLT) and hempcrete facades adorned with pigmented lime plaster, the museum is situated on a former driving-school track. It delves into 10,000 years of local history through engaging exhibits. This project emerged from the unification of the Prehistoric Village and Eindhoven Museum. The reclaimed CLT was sourced from Biobasecamp, which was developed for Dutch Design Week 2019. The facility features a "making shed," a restaurant, offices, and a green roof, along with bird and bat nesting areas, repurposed asphalt foundations, and a rainwater harvesting system. Vermeulen's goal is to highlight affordable bio-based construction and natural climate regulation. Photography by Ronald Tilleman.
