Museo Picasso Málaga to Stage First Munch-Picasso Dialogue This October

The Museo Picasso Málaga will open 'Munch-Picasso' on October 30, marking the first exhibition to directly compare the works of Edvard Munch and Pablo Picasso. Organized with the Munchmuseet Oslo and the Fundación Almine y Bernard Ruiz-Picasso (FABA), the show is curated by Paloma Alarcó, former chief curator of modern painting at the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza. Featuring around one hundred paintings, drawings, and prints, the exhibition explores shared themes such as love, desire, illness, life, death, solitude, and existential angst. It also examines the role of the female figure in both artists' symbolic universes, as well as their engagement with modern urban life, including cafés, cabarets, and bohemian environments. The curatorial narrative presents an 'imaginary encounter' between the two artists, who never met, highlighting their divergent backgrounds and artistic strategies yet common obsessions.
