Museo Madre Napoli Celebrates Marcello Rumma's Six-Year Legacy

The Museo Madre in Naples has opened 'I sei anni di Marcello Rumma 1965-1970', a long-awaited exhibition dedicated to the visionary Italian patron and publisher Marcello Rumma (Salerno, 1942-1970). Curated by Gabriele Guercio and Andrea Viliani, the show traces Rumma's brief but intense career through eleven sections, featuring documents, photographs, publications, and artworks from his personal collection. Rumma, who with his wife Lia transformed his Salerno apartment into a hub for neo-avant-garde artists, also ran the Collegio Arturo Colautti, where he pioneered an expanded educational approach. He organized landmark exhibitions in Amalfi's arsenals, including 'Aspetti del ritorno alle cose stesse' (1966, curated by Renato Barilli), 'L'impatto percettivo' (1967, by Filiberto Menna and Alberto Boatto), and 'Arte Povera più Azioni Povere' (1968, by Germano Celant). His publishing house Rumma Edizioni released notable titles by Marcel Duchamp, Michelangelo Pistoletto, and others. The exhibition highlights Rumma's role in putting Salerno on the international art map. After his premature death in 1970, Lia Rumma opened her eponymous gallery in Naples, continuing their shared mission.
