Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon Explores Artists as Collectors in 'Musée sentimental'
From September 11, 2026, to March 14, 2027, the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon will host an exhibition titled 'Musée sentimental,' showcasing over 250 pieces that delve into how artists have turned collecting into an art form. Co-curated by Sylvie Ramond, Sophie Duplaix, and Isabelle Bertolotti, the exhibition features works from notable figures such as Marcel Duchamp, Annette Messager, André Breton, and Joseph Cornell. Key pieces include Duchamp's 'Boîte-en-valise,' Messager's 'Les Pensionnaires,' and Ben's 'Le Magasin de Ben.' This exhibition, which draws inspiration from Alexandre Lenoir's Musée des Monuments français and Daniel Spoerri's 'musées sentimentaux' series, reinterprets collection as an artistic act, with support from the Centre Pompidou.
