Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris to Stage First Parisian Museum Survey of Simone Fattal in Fall 2026

exhibition · 2026-10-20

The Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris will present a major exhibition devoted to Simone Fattal in fall 2026, marking the first Parisian museum survey of the artist. Born in Damascus, Syria, in 1942, Fattal is a Lebanese American artist who has been based in Paris for many years. Roughly one hundred works will be assembled, spanning more than five decades of her practice, from early landscape paintings through ceramics and collages. Rather than following a chronological order, the show is arranged in successive groupings, a structure intended to lead visitors through the central themes of a body of work that is described as constantly renewed and diverse. Literature and archaeology have long absorbed Fattal, who began by studying philosophy at the School of Letters in Beirut and later at the Sorbonne, adding coursework at the École du Louvre to her training. She started painting in Beirut in the late 1960s, repeatedly rendering trees, the seaside and mountains.
