MUREC Almería Hosts First Retrospective of María Moreno

The Museo del Realismo Español Contemporáneo (MUREC) in Almería presents "María Moreno. Hacia la esencia de la luz", the first institutional retrospective of the Spanish painter (1933–2005), curated by Juan Manuel Martín Robles and organized with Antonio López and María López Moreno. The exhibition runs from June 12 to October 4, 2026, featuring over 80 works from thirty institutions, many previously unseen in Spain. Moreno, a member of the Madrid realists group alongside Antonio López (her husband), Isabel Quintanilla, Amalia Avia, and others, studied at the Real Academia de San Fernando. The show is divided into four sections: "Los afectos íntimos. María y Antonio", "Los espacios vividos", "El misterio de la luz", and "De la luz al objeto", highlighting her focus on interiors, landscapes, gardens, still lifes, and flowers, characterized by compositional balance and a transformative use of light. It also includes works by Antonio López, Isabel Quintanilla, Paco López, Julio López, Esperanza Parada, and Amalia Avia for context, along with documents, photographs, and recreations of her home and studio.
