MUNAL reopens modern art galleries with critical re-reading of 20th-century Mexico

The Museo Nacional de Arte (MUNAL) in Mexico City is back with its modern art galleries on the first floor, presenting a new exhibit called "Arte y visualidad en el México moderno. Colección MUNAL siglo XX." This show provides a unique look at Mexican modernity, featuring artworks including paintings, photography, graphic art, film, and printed materials from 1890 to 1950. Curated by David Cáliz, it's organized into nine themes that challenge traditional narratives and highlight underrepresented voices, as well as artistic movements beyond Mexico City. Some prominent artists in the exhibit are Diego Rivera, María Izquierdo, David Alfaro Siqueiros, and José Clemente Orozco. The goal is to strengthen the connection between cultural heritage and contemporary audiences through the exploration of image circulation.
