MSCHF and Lexus Debut Motomorphosis at Chelsea Industrial During Armory Week

exhibition · 2026-09-22

During Armory Week, the Brooklyn-based art collective MSCHF has collaborated with Lexus to unveil Motomorphosis, an installation located at Chelsea Industrial in New York. This exhibit showcases two modified Lexus electric vehicles: the Lexus RZ450e and the Lexus RX450h+, reimagined as artistic sculptures known as Circle Car and Twisted Car, which are displayed alongside their original forms. Circle Car presents a surreal loop, while Twisted Car takes on the appearance of a wrung towel. Dubbed 'Form Cars' by MSCHF, these pieces highlight the concept of movement and explore the blend of digital and physical realms, paying homage to Futurism. Lisa McQueen, Lexus marketing manager, emphasized the project’s creative vision. Scale models of the sculptures were also created. The exhibition is located at 545 W. 28th St., New York, NY.

Key facts

  • The installation debuts during Armory Week and features two altered production Lexus EVs: a Lexus RZ450e and a Lexus RX450h+.
  • The transformed vehicles are named Circle Car and Twisted Car; each is displayed alongside its original vehicle.
  • Circle Car resembles a Lexus RZ450e extruded along a circular path, while Twisted Car compresses a Lexus RX450h+ like a wrung-out towel.
  • MSCHF calls the works 'Form Cars,' stating they are sculpted to produce the idea of movement rather than engineered to move.
  • The installation continues MSCHF’s exploration of the digital-physical intersection, using techniques from 3D software, Photoshop and CGI.
  • The sculptures nod to Futurism, the century-old Italian art movement that sought to convey dynamism through static form.
  • Lexus marketing’s senior manager Lisa McQueen said the project asks what electricity can power in our imagination.
  • Lexus also produced scale models of each sculpture.
  • The exhibition disclaimer notes the vehicles are special project vehicles modified with non-Lexus parts that may void warranty, negatively impact safety, and not be street legal.
  • The installation is located at Chelsea Industrial, 545 W. 28th St., New York, NY.
