MRDK Renovates 1885 Pointe-Saint-Charles House Around Rosalie Gamache Painting

architecture-design · 2026-09-30

The Montreal-based interior design firm MRDK has transformed a house from around 1885 located in Pointe-Saint-Charles, which showcases an oil painting by Rosalie Gamache in the kitchen. This renovation maintains the home's historical features while incorporating contemporary touches, including a honed Calacatta Viola marble countertop and a backsplash that reaches the ceiling. Original ornate plaster mouldings and door trims have been preserved, with modern updates designed as distinct object-like elements. The island, clad in Calacatta Viola, features a planter, and a white-oak shelving system provides integrated storage. The updated powder room boasts a custom sink and white oak cabinetry. MRDK highlights the home's history, having previously renovated the upper floor in 2019, which involved reconfiguring bedrooms and modernizing the bathroom.
