MOZHAO Architects Renovate Homestead Land in Shenzhen Shajing

MOZHAO Architects completed the renovation of a 600 m² homestead land project in Shenzhen's Shajing area in 2024. The project, led by Guansheng Zeng, involved a design team of Chunjian Chen, Bai Lin, Wenguo Luo, Yilin Fu, and Zhifeng Li, with structural consultancy from Shenzhen Moge Design Consulting Co., LTD. Photographs were taken by Chao Zhang. The project is categorized as Houses. The architects provided a text description contextualizing the history of Shenzhen's homestead land development: since reform and opening up, rapid urbanization led to land acquisition within the Special Economic Zone in 1992 and land transfer in Bao'an and Longgang districts in 2004, achieving full nationalization. All farmers were converted to non-agricultural residents, and rural collectives were restructured into shareholding companies. After 2004, Shenzhen no longer had rural collective land, and the concept of homestead land ceased to exist in name.
