Mouraux Durand-Ruel Gallery Opens in Chelsea with Lucien Clergue Exhibition

A new gallery called Mouraux Durand-Ruel is opening in Chelsea, and its inaugural exhibition is titled 'Written by the Sun.' This event, running from September 22 to October 24, 2026, will feature black-and-white works by Lucien Clergue at 555 West 25th Street. The collection highlights Clergue's artistic evolution from the 1950s until 2010, including his nudes and intimate portraits of Pablo Picasso. The exhibition's name comes from Picasso’s comment that Clergue’s art was “written by the sun.” Their connection started in 1953 when a young Clergue captured Picasso at a bullfight in Arles, and over the next two decades, he photographed the artist in various settings, with his last portrait taken in 1971.
