More & Wiese renovates Las Américas International Airport terminal

architecture-design · 2026-05-29

In March 2024, More & Wiese received a commission to enhance the commercial space on the first floor and upgrade the north and south check-in lobbies at Las Américas International Airport (AILA) located in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. This initiative aimed to elevate the passenger experience and the airport's overall image through an expanded range of commercial offerings and a contemporary design. The project, conducted under a Guaranteed Maximum Price contract, included a month-long design phase followed by six and a half months of construction by a multidisciplinary team. The second-level lobbies showcased a white architectural facade, acoustic solutions that achieved a 46.4% reduction in noise, and improved lighting, while the first-floor area drew inspiration from a pergola terrace, featuring polished granite flooring and champagne-colored column covers.
