MOPOP Announces Major Janette Beckman Retrospective with 700 Photographs

From May 15, 2026, to September 8, 2027, Seattle's Museum of Pop Culture (MOPOP) will present 'Rebels + Icons: The Photography of Janette Beckman.' This exhibition showcases 700 photographs that span four decades, featuring rare archival prints, contemporary collaborations, and newly discovered images. Beckman's artistry captures the essence of music, fashion, activism, and street culture, documenting subcultures prior to their mainstream recognition. Attendees can enjoy immersive experiences, including film, interactive activities, and live events. Michele Y. Smith, the CEO of MOPOP, referred to it as 'a living archive of cultural movements.' Jacob McMurray, Chief Collections + Exhibitions Officer, emphasized the exhibition's extensive coverage of various decades and movements, coinciding with the UK's punk's 50th anniversary.
