Monet Centenary Exhibition at Musée d'Orsay: 'Paso mi vida pintando'

To mark the centenary of Claude Monet's death, the Musée d'Orsay in Paris will present a new exhibition titled 'Paso mi vida pintando' (I spent my life painting) from September 30, 2026 to January 24, 2027. The show will occupy rooms 29 to 35 of the museum's Impressionist gallery. It features five recently studied or restored canvases that reveal less-explored facets of Monet's creative process, challenging the notion of his spontaneity. The works span from his early career to the turn of the century, depicting scenes along the Seine, rough seas, spring greenery, and harsh winters. The exhibition also includes letters that offer insight into the artist's personality and creative process. Organized in collaboration with the Centre de Recherche et de Restauration des Musées de France, the project involves restorer Bénédicte Trémolières and other conservation professionals. Curated by Sylvie Patry, general curator and delegate for the celebrations of the Musée d'Orsay and the Musée de l'Orangerie, and Anne Robbins, curator of paintings at Orsay, the exhibition underscores Monet's relentless dedication to painting en plein air and his material decisions, such as whether to varnish a canvas. The display aims to provide a deeper understanding of Monet's work and methods, moving beyond the apparent ease of his technique.
