MoMA's Universal Westerns Series Explores Cinematic Idiosyncrasies

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is presenting 'Universal Westerns,' a film series running through July 3 that highlights the distinctive cinematic approaches fostered by Universal Pictures, founded in 1912. The series features works by directors John Ford, Allan Dwan, and King Vidor, showcasing early Westerns that blend moral complexity, comedy, and social commentary. Ford's first feature 'Straight Shooting' (1917) and 'Hell Bent' (1918) are screened June 6 and June 16, while Dwan's 'Trail of the Vigilantes' (1940) plays June 8 and July 2. Vidor's 'Man Without a Star' (1955) screens June 12 and June 28.
