molo Debuts Sloped Softwall in Deep Blue and Glacier Blue with Gmund Paper Partnership

architecture-design · 2026-10-22

Vancouver studio molo has introduced a sloped version of its softwall partition in two blue shades — deep blue and glacier blue — produced under a new sustainable manufacturing partnership with Gmund Paper, a German mill operating for nearly two centuries. Founders Stephanie Forsythe and Todd MacAllen, who met in 1994 while studying architecture at Dalhousie University and established molo in Vancouver in 2003, describe the soft collection as layers of possibilities rather than furniture with rigid definitions of use. The pliable honeycomb structure extends to one hundred times its compressed length and connects magnetically; the translucent glacier blue glows with the luminosity of a glacier crevasse, while the opaque deep blue offers higher lightfastness than molo's earlier blue paper. Gmund developed bespoke fire-retardant, recyclable papers free of harmful components, produced at a mill on the Mangfall River where hydropower supplies all energy and 75% comes from the company's own turbines. The paper is FSC Certified (FSC C158591), made on a machine in service over 140 years and updated with lasers, robotics and ozone-based water purification, with zero solid waste to landfill. molo holds over 35 patents, the Danish INDEX Award, and works in the MoMA and Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum collections.
