MM Studio Interior's Pauline Gidoin Remodels Clerkenwell House for Art-Collecting Family

architecture-design · 2026-10-12

Architect Pauline Gidoin of MM Studio Interior has completed a near-total redesign of a Clerkenwell house in London, a property previously associated with designer Roksanda Ilincic a decade ago. The current owners, a family of three with interests in travel and art, had occupied the home for eight years before commissioning Gidoin to tailor the space to their needs. Two infill extensions to the upper bedrooms had already been completed shortly before the studio's involvement, creating two more usable rooms that required proper design. Gidoin collaborated with Tate Joinery on all bespoke storage elements. She described the design language as Brutalist and minimalist, aiming to balance the property's bold architecture with functionality and warmth rather than filling rooms with objects. On the generous ground floor, furniture placement, rugs, lighting, art and joinery were used to define distinct living, dining and music areas without adding walls; upstairs and on the lower-ground floor, the priority was making every centimetre useful while responding to differing natural light. A restrained palette of travertine, oak, walnut, limestone, leather and chrome was applied in varied scales and finishes, with the clients' art collection providing continuity throughout.
