Mira M. Yang's "Ensemble" Reimagines Dancer Choi-Seung Hee at Kunsthalle Friart Fribourg
The exhibition "Ensemble" by Mira M. Yang is set to launch at Kunsthalle Friart Fribourg, followed by a second installment at Fondation Pernod Ricard in Paris from November 24, 2026, to February 6, 2027. This initiative focuses on Choi-Seung Hee (1911–1969), the first dancer and singer from colonial Korea to perform in Europe, known for blending diverse cultural influences in her choreography. Yang's film "Transmissions" and sound collages reinterpret Choi-Seung Hee's legacy through fragmented records. Shot in iconic Parisian sites, it features dancer Paula Pau and integrates Labanotation into machine-generated signals exhibited by animated sculptures. Historical marionettes from the Swiss Puppet Museum will also be on display. An artist talk is scheduled for October 10, 2026, and a concert by bela on November 7, 2026.
