Min Jeong Park's 'The Written Skin of the City' at AMP Gallery

Min Jeong Park's solo exhibition 'The Written Skin of the City' ran from 17 to 19 December 2025 at AMP Gallery in Peckham, London. The show featured pavement rubbings on black textile from the forecourt of the Pelican Estate, a 1970s residential estate near the gallery. Park's method involves pressing into urban surfaces to extract their imprints, rather than observing from a distance. The largest works are rubbings made with white wax on dark ground, capturing tile edges, stains, and joints. The floor piece 'Wheeled Bench' is a scaffolding-pipe structure with a rubber wheel and chalk dispenser that leaves dotted marks as it is pushed across the gallery floor. A set of small photographs shows wheels, paws, and feet on pavement, pinned without frames. 'Prototypes for the Wheeled Bench' presents reclaimed paving tiles in shallow wooden frames. The glass-fronted gallery allows the actual street and pavement to remain visible through the windows, creating a dialogue between the works and their source. Park treats the city's surfaces as active inscriptions rather than passive backdrops, reading decades of occupation without aestheticizing neglect.
