Mims and Mười Reimagine Maroon Communities in "Marooning Bodies" at Feminist Center for Creative Work
"Marooning Bodies: Prototype as Prophecy," an exhibition by Mims and Mười, was showcased by the Feminist Center for Creative Work (FCCW), focusing on maroon communities to imagine just futures. Mims presented an immersive game, described as a "time capsule for the future," which included a guidebook, a scent bottle, and animal community practice cards. The artists organized two complimentary sessions for participants to create fictional communities while discussing governance and conflict resolution. The exhibition also displayed an archive detailing the game's development, along with notes from sessions held in Ghana, Senegal, Morocco, USC, CSU East Bay, and Norco Prison, as well as "Future Relics" artworks. Among the highlighted pieces were "Chain Gang in Blue: The Bower Dress" (2026) and Kia McCormick's model for a Collective Prayer Stool. Mims initiated the game's development in 2020, merging performance with community facilitation.
