artist · 2026-03-15

Italian artist Millo has completed a large-scale mural titled 'The Book of Life' on Da Xue Lu in Shanghai's Yangpu district. This work marks his return to the same location nearly a decade after creating 'Twist of Fate' there in 2017. The project was organized by Bin Cao of Murmur studio and received support from the Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Shanghai. Situated within the Knowledge and Innovation Community, an area known for universities and tech companies, the mural incorporates architectural elements like doors and vents into its composition. It features two figures seated in oversized books against a monochrome cityscape, with colorful accents including a yellow dress, red shirt, blue book covers, pink lotus flowers, and a green watering can. The artwork reflects themes of knowledge, growth, and collective urban development. Photographer Tom Tang documented the installation.
