Milky Way Tonight App Simplifies Astrophotography Planning

Photographer Jack Fusco has launched Milky Way Tonight, a $7.99 app for iOS and Android that removes guesswork from Milky Way photography. The app analyzes timing of the Milky Way core above the horizon based on user location, lunar phase, moonrise and moonset times, and hourly cloud forecasts to deliver a go/no-go verdict. It integrates light pollution data from Dark Sky Finder to help locate nearby dark areas with better forecasts. Additional tools include a composition planner, exposure calculator, monthly visibility calendar, and a Sky View function that highlights H-alpha emission regions and visualizes Milky Way alignment with compositions. Users can save reference photos and plans. Fusco emphasizes ease of use while providing detailed data on tap. The app complements existing PetaPixel guides, such as one by landscape photographer Ross Schram von Haupt, which covers moon phase, dark skies, and composition alignment. Milky Way Tonight has no subscriptions or add-ons.
