Miho Ichise's Paintings Transform Everyday Moments into Intimate, Suspended Images

Miho Ichise, born in Saitama in 1969 and now based in Fukuoka, creates paintings that capture fleeting, ordinary scenes like a cat crossing a street or a moon over buildings, transforming them into intimate, emotionally charged images. Her practice focuses on private life moments—family time, walks, and light variations—which she photographs, reworks, and recomposes on canvas to convey sensory impressions rather than literal reality. Ichise studied in France and at the Chelsea College of Art and Design in London, graduating in painting, and has exhibited across Europe, the United States, Australia, and Asia. Her work, characterized by essential compositions and a delicate palette, draws from Japanese visual culture, emphasizing seasons, light, and quiet daily moments to evoke atmosphere and mystery.
