Mienar's Animated Illustrations Find Calm in Minimal Motion

Miena A.R., known online as mienar, creates looping animated illustrations that prioritize environments over characters. Her work features rooms, kitchens, forests, and corners of houses with minimal movement—curtains swaying, rain on glass, leaves trembling. She began sharing on Tumblr in January 2018, though her drawing practice started in 2013. Entirely self-taught, she learned via YouTube tutorials, forums, and blogs. A thematic thread of 'breathlessness' and 'calmness' runs through her pieces, often incorporating rain and moving plants to animate without breaking contemplative stillness. Recently, she expanded into longer formats: her first animated short, 'Golden Hour,' was created during a month-long break dedicated to studying efficient animation techniques, new color palettes, and sound design.
