Midea Science Center by Atelier Ma_BIAD Opens in Foshan

architecture-design · 2026-07-09

In 2024, the Midea Science Center, crafted by Atelier Ma_BIAD, was inaugurated in Foshan, China. Situated opposite Tadao Ando's He Art Museum, this 5,379 m² facility features a minimalist design, incorporating white engineered stone, ultra-clear glass, and black exposed ceilings. Its square courtyard design, rooted in Chinese tradition, stands in contrast to the museum's circular form. The center focuses on scientific innovation and the China Science Awards, highlighting the relationship between technology and nature. The project was spearheaded by lead architect Ma Long, alongside team members Wang Huanhuan, Jin Ge, Cong Xiao, and Qi Meihui. Structural design was executed by the Beijing Institute of Architectural Design (BIAD), with construction managed by China Construction Third Engineering Bureau and Shenzhen Jinggong Architectural Decoration Group. The client is Midea Group.
