Michelin Star Chef Michelle Kogan Opens Mishie's Sunnyside Pie Shop in Queens

Michelle Kogan, a Michelin Star pastry chef who has worked at Nobu, Morimoto, and Torrisi, has gained a following for her handmade pies sold at Brooklyn and Queens farmers markets. Her pies, priced between $35 and $45, feature unique flavors like key lime and ube coconut cream. After a viral post by food influencer Mike Chau, demand spiked to 800 pies a week. Kogan, who grew up in Brooklyn and Queens in a Russian-Ukrainian immigrant family, was inspired by her grandmother's baking. She studied at the French Culinary Institute in 2005 and later earned a Michelin Star at Torrisi in 2012. Feeling burnt out, she returned to baking and developed her signature key lime pie, which uses limes from Mexico rather than key limes. Her seasonal ingredients include blueberries from Maine and mango passion fruit from Colombia. Kogan will open her own Mishie's Sunnyside store at 39-37 43rd Avenue in Sunnyside, Queens, in mid-September, a location near her grandparents' former apartment. The store will also offer ice cream creations like banana splits and malted milkshakes. Kogan describes her mission as bringing joy through food, and she views it as an honor to be part of people's celebrations.
