Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas and Ernst Reijseger Bring "Haïda Manga" Drawn Concert to Musée du quai Branly
On Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October, the musée du quai Branly in Paris hosts "Haïda Manga", a performance by visual artist Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas and cellist Ernst Reijseger. The event sits at the intersection of a drawn concert, a lecture and a narrative. Yahgulanaas is known for developing Haida manga, an artistic form that merges the conventions of Japanese manga with the visual traditions of Haida art. On stage he draws live, tells stories and sings, accompanied by Reijseger on cello. Reijseger is a figure of the European jazz scene, notably recognized for his collaborations with filmmaker Werner Herzog. In this performance his instrument extends Yahgulanaas's graphic gesture and narration, creating a piece in which disciplines continually respond to one another. The event is a partner event of the Club Artistik Rezo. It is presented as a press release.
